Underage Drinking Training for Retailers
Retailer Training
DATE: Friday November 2, 2007 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Bixby Community Center (Lunch will be provided)
The Bixby Police Department in coordination with 2Much2Lose and the Bixby Chamber of Commerce is offering retailer training for businesses that sell alcohol and low-point beer.
2 Much 2 Lose is a statewide under 21 drinking prevention initiative aimed at reducing underage access to alcohol. To teach servers and retail sales clerks about their legal responsibility and the liability of serving persons under the age of 21. This is done through training programs, which are targeted at those who serve or sell alcohol in any form.
This program is designed to:
• Train employees to spot fake ID's.
• Train employees on how to read ID’s.
• Provide practical tips on how to deal with customers.
• Know how and when to decline the sale of alcohol to intoxicated customers.
• Educate alcoholic beverage servers and retailers about their legal responsibilities and liabilities.
• Help reduce the number of drunk driving accidents and deaths, especially among those under 21.
The Bixby Police Department is committed to the underage drinking initiative and wishes to work with local businesses to make sure that they have all of the information that they need to succeed in assisting us in this mission.
Help us make a difference!
For more information or to register for the training, contact Officer Erik Smoot with the Bixby Police Department 366-8294. Seating is limited.

First Annual Taste of Bixby
held its first annual Taste of Bixby featuring local restaurants of Bixby, OK. Featured caterers included a diverse selection from Doc's Country Mart to Savastano's to Chili's. The surprising part of the event was how many different restaurants Bixby has. You would never think that Bixby had that many foods to choose from. One of the most interesting exhibitors was Cookie Advantage, a cookie bakery specializing gift tins. The company has recently relocated their headquarters to historic Downtown Bixby at 107 N. Armstrong where they ship chocolate chip cookies across the country as thank you gifts for businesses and individuals.Bixby is growing. Neil Dailey, Commercial real estate agent fro The Baskin Real Estate Specialists, says large franchises has begun to take notice of this suburb of Tulsa and big changes will be seen soon as the plans of these companies begin to unfold. Recent franchises expanding into the area include Starbucks, Quizno's, and newcomer to the franchise market Coney Beach.

The State Chamber is seeking to send a message to Governor Henry to sign SB 507 and they are asking for your help. As you know, the Bixby Chamber has also included Lawsuit Reform on the Legislative Agenda and last week, we encouraged you to contact your legislators and Governor Henry’s office with your thoughts on the issue.
The State Chamber will be sending a letter (see text below) to Governor Henry asking him to sign SB 507 – if you would like your business name added to the letter, please let us know by email AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

The Honorable Brad Henry
State Capitol Building, Room 212
2300 N. Lincoln Blvd.,
Oklahoma City, OK 73105
Dear Governor Henry:
In 2004 you stepped forward and called for “a comprehensive tort reform initiative that will stamp out frivolous lawsuits and prevent abuse to make Oklahoma's civil justice system the ‘best in the nation.’" In that call, you set out 28 key areas of reform that needed to be addressed.
Over the past three years, seven of those 28 have been addressed. You now have the opportunity to address 18 additional areas of reform by signing SB 507. With your leadership in signing this reform bill, Oklahoma will be recognized nationwide as a state that wants to return common sense to our courts and personal responsibility to our society.
