Crime Alert

The following information is provided to the Chamber as part of the Bixby Crime Watch Alert Program, a partnership between the Bixby Chamber and the Bixby Police Department in an effort to keep business members informed regarding any suspicious or fraudulent activity that has taken or is taking place in and around the Bixby community.

Recipients should be aware of a scam that has emerged in connection with the pending Tax Rebates. Under recently passed legislation, the IRS will mail tax rebate checks to eligible taxpayers. The Security and Investigations Division has been alerted to a scam related to the Tax Rebates.

Several complaints have been registered after potential victims received unsolicited emails and telephone calls requesting taxpayers' social security and bank account numbers claiming the IRS will use the information to directly deposit rebate checks into the taxpayers account.

The IRS does not call or email taxpayers requesting such information. Taxpayers solicited in this manner should file a complaint with the IRS at www.irs.gov or call 1.800.829.1040. Reports can also be made to the Security and Investigations Division at 1.202.730.3112.
