24/7 and They Mean It!

Christmas Day is almost as usy as any other at The Ice House Fitness Center in Bixby, OK. Owner and local real estate broker, Darryl baskin, says "I don't like working around someone else's schedule for my personal activities and i don't expect my members to work around any holiday schedule at the Ice House.

Fact is, most people use their off-time to work out and take care of themselves. A fitness club should be open those times. Many members of the Ice House note that other "24-hour" clubs close on holidays and weekends. The Ice House is celebrating its fifth year in business in historic Downtown Bixby.

New Bixby, OK area housing market update

I was preparing data for a home seller who was looking to buy a larger home in the South County area. This was an enlightening and encouraging process for this homeowners. He was selling a home around $125,000 where the available inventory was approximately 3 homes available for every one home under contract. Conversely this home seller wanted to buy a home in a market where there were 20 houses available for every one house that was under contract! Can you say D-E-A-L ? Maybe you can scream it! You can’t ask for a better situation and that is what is moving the Bixby are market.

If you have considered moving up, call my office and let me show you how to turn the national credit crunch into your dream home.

Crime Alert

The following information is provided to the Chamber as part of the Bixby Crime Watch Alert Program, a partnership between the Bixby Chamber and the Bixby Police Department in an effort to keep business members informed regarding any suspicious or fraudulent activity that has taken or is taking place in and around the Bixby community.

Recipients should be aware of a scam that has emerged in connection with the pending Tax Rebates. Under recently passed legislation, the IRS will mail tax rebate checks to eligible taxpayers. The Security and Investigations Division has been alerted to a scam related to the Tax Rebates.

Several complaints have been registered after potential victims received unsolicited emails and telephone calls requesting taxpayers' social security and bank account numbers claiming the IRS will use the information to directly deposit rebate checks into the taxpayers account.

The IRS does not call or email taxpayers requesting such information. Taxpayers solicited in this manner should file a complaint with the IRS at www.irs.gov or call 1.800.829.1040. Reports can also be made to the Security and Investigations Division at 1.202.730.3112.

City of Bixby Gets Serious about the City’s Image

Sign and banners have exploded out of control and the city of Bixby, OK has suffered tremendously as a result. As a tiny suburb, you might expect a town to be trashy looking and not have any enforced sign ordinances, but as the Tulsa suburb with the highest average home price, your would not expect the city to be plagued with corner snipe signs, sagging banners, and off-site promotions which litter the town and detract from its otherwise clean look. Mayor Ray Bowen has taken the city’s image seriously. In a recent conversation, Bowen stated that allocating funds for employees to enforce the code has been the problem. It only takes a handful of businesses to abuse the unenforced policies to make Bixby look bad.

Many city businesses are behind the cleanup. Off-site signage without a permit from one business creates an unfair advantage to other businesses that choose to follow the rules. As a Realtor, it is easier to throw signs up on every corner in town than it is to explain to a home seller why you are choosing to follow the rules to maintain the attractiveness of the area. You can imagine the pressure many home sellers place on their agent to break the rules… after all it is only one house.

What really has to happen is consumers in Bixby must demand that businesses not litter their city with signs that break the ordinances. Consumers should be vocal about it in a friendly manner. When business owners receive peer pressure and see no benefit to the sign clutter they create, they will stop.
